My Booth at the Webster Arts Fair

Webster Arts Fair | June 2022

It had been two years since I had participated in an outdoor art fair, and I had never shown at the Webster Arts Fair. I didn’t know what to expect.

My husband had Covid, so my sister, mom, and brother-in-law stepped in. They were surprised at the amount of work and equipment it takes to show at an art fair. It gave them a new understanding of the art fair world and the artists that show in fairs.

Why do we artists subject ourselves to all the hard work when there is so much uncertainty about weather, attendance, and sales? For me, there are many reasons. Of course, I want my work to find people who connect and ultimately add it to their collection, but I am also energized by the opportunity to meet people, discuss art, explain my work and process, and connect with other artists.

The opportunity to explain, in person, the conceptual and technical aspects of my process is extremely important. As a person who relies on touch for my creative process, I encourage visitors to my booth, even children, to touch the work. The reactions for people of all ages reinforces my belief in art education as well as the use of our senses to learn about our world.

I was happy to see Kim Carr, Michelle Mohr, Steve & Valerie Doer, Rosemary Werkmeister, Melanie Mollman, Serena, Kojimoto, Don Kelly, Dganit Moreno, and Jim Irwin. I was able to expand my artist contacts to painter Earnest Benton, Jr, ceramicist Kim Wilson, potter Heather Woodson, woodworker Jared Kauffman, and painter Andrew Rola. A special thank you to woodworker Bill Lepak for graciously reminding me how to put up my tent after so long.

I extend a huge thank you to Webster Arts. The staff and volunteers couldn’t have been more supportive of the artists. They helped with set-up, booth sat, and provided drinks, snacks and meals throughout the weekend. The city was welcoming, the fair was well attended, and the setting was beautiful. I would definitely show again at the Webster Arts Fair.
