"Together But Alone" will be showing in the Art St. Louis' "The Exhibition XXXVIII." Art St. Louis XXXVIII, The Exhibition is presented November 5-December 15, 2022.

I started this piece in 2017. My inspiration from my gardening hobby is obvious. As I created it, I was experimenting with different hand building techniques with porcelain. After it was bisque fired, I stopped. I just couldn't decide what I wanted to say or how I wanted to finish it. Did it need bees? Did it need color?

It finally came to me this past summer. I'm sure I was influenced by both the pandemic as well as many other current events. Sometimes pieces just take a while to emerge.

Art St. Louis XXXVIII, The Exhibition

I am a member of multiple communities. I engage in these inherited or chosen communities in a variety of ways. I believe, within these groups of people, some members suffer from perceived isolation. It may feel nearly impossible to reach out in a meaningful way and have a sense of belonging, even with family or long time friends.

Art Saint Louis’ 38th annual exhibit features recent works by me and more than 40 other regional artists. With no restrictive themes and all media welcome, this exhibition is a diverse sampling of some of the best artwork being made in the Midwest today.

Art St. Louis XXXVIII will be on display at Art Saint Louis through December 15, 2022. To learn more visit www.artstlouis.org.
